Section XLVIII: One of Adulthood’s Greatest Tragedies Is Losing the Ability to Feel Happiness
Many adults are not unsuccessful.
In fact,
many have already achieved:
Careers.
Income.
Families.
Social status.
Some have even reached standards others deeply admire.
Yet internally they still carry one persistent feeling:
Emptiness.
As though life has lost its living quality.
And future civilization will increasingly recognize:
One of modern humanity’s deepest crises is not lacking more things.
It is gradually losing the ability to feel happiness itself.
I. Many People Never Truly Experienced Relaxed Joy During Childhood
This is one of modern personality crisis’s deepest roots.
Many children grow up surrounded by:
Pressure.
Comparison.
Control.
Expectation.
Competition.
Thus life becomes organized around:
“You must work harder.”
“You must succeed.”
“You must become exceptional.”
As a result many children learn very early:
How to feel anxiety.
But never learn:
How to peacefully experience life.
Even while playing,
many children quietly feel:
“I should not waste time.”
“I cannot fall behind.”
“I must not disappoint my parents.”
And gradually personality loses:
Ease.
II. Personality Living Under Constant Pressure Gradually Loses Emotional Sensitivity
Future psychological civilization will increasingly recognize:
Human beings trapped for long periods inside:
Stress,
fear,
anxiety,
and self-suppression
gradually enter:
Survival mode.
And when personality remains in survival mode too long,
the first thing often lost is:
Sensitivity to life itself.
Thus many people eventually struggle to truly feel:
Joy.
Peace.
Wonder.
Love.
Happiness.
Because personality becomes reduced to:
Functional operation.
III. Many Modern Human Beings Are Gradually Becoming High-Functioning Machines
This is one of future civilization’s most urgent problems.
Many adults spend every day:
Working.
Managing tasks.
Maintaining efficiency.
Solving problems.
Yet increasingly rarely:
Experiencing life.
Many have not truly:
Watched a sunset quietly,
shared a peaceful meal,
felt the wind,
deeply accompanied loved ones,
or done something purely out of joy
for a very long time.
Because personality has been trained into:
A continuously operating functional system.
Thus many people survive without collapsing —
yet also without truly living.
IV. Truly Happy People Often Retain a Sense of Aliveness
Future civilization will increasingly realize:
Happiness is not merely possessing more.
It is:
Recovering the ability to feel life itself.
Meaning truly happy people still retain the capacity to:
Feel sunlight.
Feel connection.
Feel love.
Feel authenticity.
Feel emotional movement within themselves.
Thus happiness comes not only from outcomes,
but from:
Whether personality remains alive.
V. Many People Become Emotionally Numb Because Personality Was Never Allowed to Be Free
Future psychological civilization will increasingly recognize:
Chronically suppressed people gradually become:
Numb.
Because when human beings cannot:
Express authentically,
choose freely,
or become themselves,
personality slowly shuts down:
Emotional sensitivity.
This is often a psychological survival mechanism.
Thus many adults eventually become:
People who “feel nothing.”
Not because they are naturally cold,
but because personality has become:
Exhausted.
VI. Advanced Civilization Must Do More Than Increase Efficiency — It Must Help Humanity Feel Alive Again
This marks one of future civilization’s most important transformations.
Many historical civilizations emphasized:
Production.
Efficiency.
Competition.
Growth.
But future civilization will increasingly realize:
If human beings lose the ability to feel happiness, no amount of efficiency can truly create civilization.
Thus future advanced civilization will increasingly value:
Relationships.
Emotion.
Experience.
Inner well-being.
Quality of life.
Because:
Civilization’s true purpose is not merely helping people function more efficiently.
It is helping people feel alive again.
VII. The Family Civilization Project Ultimately Seeks to Help Humanity Recover the Feeling of Being Alive
One of the deepest goals of the Family Civilization Project is helping civilization restore:
Humanity’s capacity to feel life deeply again.
Because modern society has produced too many people who are:
Highly efficient.
Highly anxious.
Highly functional.
Deeply unhappy.
Many appear externally:
Mature.
Yet internally:
Exhausted.
Thus future civilized families must do more than produce competitive individuals.
They must help cultivate people who still retain the ability to:
Love life.
Feel connection.
Experience freedom.
Feel happiness.
Feel authentically alive.
Because:
Humanity’s greatest tragedy is not poverty.
It is succeeding outwardly while losing the ability to feel happiness inwardly.
And perhaps one of future civilization’s greatest missions is:
Helping human beings move from merely surviving
back toward truly living.
